Does your dog lunge, bark or even growl at other dogs on walks? You are not alone.

Whether your dog is overly excited, overly anxious or even scared when seeing other dogs, squirrels or cars while on leash, it is still an over-reaction.

Achieve happier, more harmonious walks with your dog through personalized, nonviolent dog training. At The Force Free Way Dog Training, each session is tailored to you and your dog, making reducing Leash Reactivity simpler and kinder. Equipment like e-collars, prong collars and choke collars are not needed and you and your dog can start enjoying your daily walks.

Using positive reinforcement and proven training and mindfulness techniques, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to guide your dog without fear, pain, or intimidation. I love helping dog owners create lasting partnerships with their dogs and would be honored to support you in achieving a calmer, more responsive, and joyful relationship.

Private training sessions are available both in-person across select areas of Maryland and NE D.C., or online for owners outside the service area.

Basic Training for Leash Reactive Dogs

Your Leash Reactive dog is not be able to be in a classroom with other dogs, but you still need the benefits of basic training. Social Learning Packages are the solution.

BASIC MANNERS TRAINING WHILE YOU WATCH

Based on Social Learning Theory, developed by psychologist Albert Bandura, dogs and owners can learn new behaviors by watching, and practicing what they observed. In this program, I demonstrate and train your dog in core skills such as Sit, Down, Go to Mat and Stay, leash manners, polite greetings, and impulse control. You watch and learn the techniques, then practice with your dog between sessions to reinforce progress.

Sessions are offered in your home or at our training space, depending on your location.

This Package Includes:

  • A choice of 6, 8, 10 or 12 thirty-minute training sessions

  • 1-2, 1-hour review sessions (depending on package) upon completion of training sessions

  • Step-by-step instructional handouts for each behavior

“Joanne came to our home and provided a series of private 30 minute sessions where she taught our dog (and, importantly, us) specific cues and techniques to quickly assist us. Then she made sure we understood how to cue the dog to elicit positive behavior and carry the training gains forward into everyday life. The lessons have been invaluable. Our dog has integrated into our lives smoothly and Joanne has answered our many questions patiently! Thank you, Joanne!” Julie Boynton
